Workout Review: Walking to Burn Fat Old School with Coach Angel

On rainy days, freezing-cold days, or other days when I just don’t feel like leaving the house for a walk, I’ll often head to YouTube to try an indoor walking workout instead. There are so many out there—with a variety of instructors, music, moves, and difficulty levels. But if you’ve never tried a walking workout before and would like to try something that won’t have you tripping over your feet or racing to keep up, Walking to Burn Fat Old School with Coach Angel is a good place to start.

This Walking to Burn Fat workout is a great choice for beginners. Coach Angel keeps the workout basic, with 30 seconds of walking in place followed by 30 seconds of another easy move—from side kicks to punches. These moves also incorporate arm movements and some easy twists and kicks—not just to keep the workout from getting too monotonous but also to work different parts of your body.

The music in this video is upbeat and fun. They may be “old school,” but the songs are familiar ones—from Wild Cherry to Gloria Estefan. And, like Coach Angel, you might find yourself singing along and getting into the music.

Though the instructor does have some moments when she gets into the music, though, she still seems a little bored by the whole thing. And that’s understandable. The 120 bpm pace may seem like a decent speed (that comes to a 16:40 mile), but unless you’re new to walking workouts, it may eventually start to feel slow. And while the basic moves are great for beginners, they won’t give you much of a challenge.

Overall, this one is a good choice if you’re new to walking workouts. The music is fun, and the moves are easy—and, according to my watch, I got around 1250 steps during this 18-minute workout. But if you’re up for a more challenging workout, you may want to skip this one and try something else instead.

Pros:
– Fun, upbeat music
– Slower pace for an easy low-impact workout
– Great for beginners—nothing to complicated
– Incorporates arms for more of a full-body workout

Cons:
– Pace might be too slow for anyone beyond beginner level
– Basic steps get a little dull
– Even the instructor seems bored by the pace and the moves
