Workout Review: Free 20-Minute Walking Pad Workout #15 with Angela of BPM

Ever since the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would be performing in the Super Bowl halftime show, I’ve been seeing the Puerto Rican rapper everywhere—from Happy Gilmore 2 (last week’s pick for Family Movie Night) tothe Saturday Night Live clips that keep popping up on my feed. Since I’m not really familiar with his music—and since I have just a few months until I sit down to watch my one and only football game of the year (which I watch for the commercials, the halftime show, and the snacks)—I decided, one rainy morning, to search for a Bad Bunny-themed walking workout to try. I was surprised to find that the only real option was the 20-Minute Walking Pad Workout #15 by BPM. When I saw it, I’ll admit that my first thought was, Just 20 minutes of nothing but walking on the treadmill? That sounds incredibly boring. But, out of curiosity (and also…Bad Bunny), I decided to give it a shot—and was pleasantly surprised.

For this workout, you’ll need a walking pad or a treadmill. Angela, the instructor, then takes you through 20 minutes of walking at different speeds to a Bad Bunny playlist. For Angela, the speed ranged from 1 mph to 3.5 mph—for a total of .85 miles—but I bumped up the speed a bit to stay closer to the beat of the music.

While I was expecting just 20 minutes of treadmill walking, I was surprised by how much fun I had doing this workout. The music definitely helps: it’s upbeat and fun with a great Latin beat. And Angela takes full advantage of the playlist to make the workout feel more like a night at the club than a boring 20 minutes on the treadmill. The setting is simple—just a plain dark backdrop with some neon and some flashing LED lights—but that adds to the club vibe. Angela, meanwhile, is so absolutely over-the-top that she almost seems like an SNL parody of a workout instructor, but that’s another part of what makes this workout fun. She’s not just walking, she’s dancing and grooving on her walking pad. And you can’t help but smile and dance along.

Would I enjoy a workout like this one if the music were different? Maybe not. But the combination of the fun playlist and Angela’s energy make this one a workout that I wouldn’t mind repeating.

Pros:
– Upbeat playlist
– Fun club feel
– High-energy instructor
– Offers suggestions for speed, but you can go at your own pace

Cons:
– Just walking—not a variety of moves like other walk-at-home videos

You can find this workout on YouTube–and find more like it on the BPM Pulse Studio channel.
