When it comes to sports hydration, Gatorade has been one of the most recognizable brands for as long as most of us can remember—whether we see the familiar jugs on football sidelines or at the hydration stations of your favorite race. In our house, we keep bottles stocked in the pantry for my husband’s hockey games and my daughter’s volleyball tournaments. But while the bottled drinks may be common in our house, we always went with other brands for powdered mixes.
Gatorade’s Hydration Booster packets offer the same electrolyte benefits of your bottle of Gatorade in an easy just-add-water packet. It provides 100% of several vitamins and minerals—including Vitamins A, C, and B6 and electrolytes like potassium—to help you replenish those all-important fluids. The mix isn’t sugar-free, so you’ll find some added sugars here, but that also means that you don’t have to worry about that artificial sweetener aftertaste.
The flavor here is definitely strong. Though the package recommends mixing with 20 ounces of water, I mixed it in my one-liter water bottle (which is around 24 ounces) and still found the flavor to be surprisingly strong. Fortunately, though, that wasn’t a bad thing here. I enjoyed the Tropical Mango flavor—though, since I prefer lighter flavors, I wouldn’t want to cut back on the water for this one.
While looking into the nutritional information for these packets, I decided to do a quick comparison to the bottles that we have around the house. While we’ve tried a number of different kinds of Gatorade, I found that the standard Thirst Quencher is a lot higher in carbs and lower in vitamins. Admittedly, the bottles are cheaper than the packets—but you’ll most likely get more of a boost from the mix.
