App Review: FitCash

Before and after my daily walks, you’ll often find me checking in on my walking apps. I’ve got apps for tracking workouts, apps that trade steps for donations to charities, apps that track challenges, and my personal favorites: apps that pay me to walk. I’m always up for trying a new paid-to-walk app because I’m all for rewarding myself for staying consistent—and it’s even better if someone else is paying for my rewards. Fortunately, I don’t have to search long and hard to find paid-to-walk apps—because if you’ve got one of these types of apps, you’ll regularly see ads for others. And after a FitCash ad caught my eye, I decided to give it a try.

Like most paid-to-walk apps, FitCash tracks your daily steps and awards you points for each level you reach, up to 10,000 steps (5 points for 2,500 steps, 10 points for 5,000 steps, 15 points for 7,500 steps, and 20 points for 10,000 steps). They’re automatically tracked through your phone’s pedometer app, and you don’t have to remember to log them manually. Unlike other apps, though, it offers additional wellness challenges. You can earn up to 20 additional points by correctly answering a wellness trivia question each day. You can earn another 10 points for logging a workout. You can earn by logging up to 8 glasses of water each day—and also for limiting your social media screen time to under two hours. While some of these bonus opportunities are on the honors system, I’ve found that they’ve made me more mindful of things like my water intake (which I definitely needed after another busy summer).

Also like most paid-to-walk apps, there are other non-fitness ways to earn points—and, admittedly, you’ll earn a lot more points this way than you will by getting your daily steps in. Throughout the day, users can participate in Lightning Offers, which involves clicking on a link and keeping the resulting page open for at least 15 seconds. The ads here are generally pretty strange—often involving prescription medications—but each Lightning Round that you complete throughout the day gives you more points. In fact, even completing Round 1 will give you as many points as you’d earn by walking 10,000 steps. Of course, there are always other offers as well—from downloading apps to playing games. And these can earn you a surprising number of points.

Still, you don’t have to download a bunch of extra apps and participate in the extra offers to make some extra money using FitCash. I’ve been earning points for wellness goals and Lightning Offers—in addition to watching the occasional ad when I’ve got a few minutes to spare. And in my first month, I earned more than $15 in extra points. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not a ton—but it’s enough for a few free cups of coffee, and that’s good enough for me.

When you’re ready to redeem your points, there are a number of options—from different cash apps to gift cards. I chose to get paid through Venmo—and while other apps can take time for cash-out, this one was instant.

When it comes to paid-to-walk apps, FitCash isn’t exactly the most profitable if you’re only going on your step count. But it might just motivate you to log daily workouts and drink those eight glasses of water a day. And if you’re willing to click on some ads here and there, you can earn some extra rewards—and treat yourself for staying consistent in your walking routine.

Pros:
– Several ways to earn points
– If you take time to click on ads, the earning rate is impressive
– Connects to your phone’s pedometer
– Might motivate you to complete more health challenges
– Payout is instant

Cons:
– Not a lot of points come from steps
– Ads choices are often strange
