When we’re getting a really good workout, we’re sweating out a lot of the things our body needs to recoup. Drinking lots of water is a great way to start, but sometimes our body needs a little extra help—which is where electrolyte drinks come in. They’re designed to give your body an extra kick of the vitamins and minerals that you’re sweating out.
One of those minerals that you need to replace is sodium. It seems counter-intuitive—because eating too many salty foods just makes you feel thirstier, right? And doctors often recommend low-sodium diets for patients with a number of different conditions (especially heart conditions). But it’s important to replace all of the salt that you’re sweating out. It’s why so many people pack pretzels to eat on long walks. It’s also why electrolyte drinks are loaded with sodium—and why LMNT electrolyte drink mixes pack in even more sodium than most electrolyte drinks.
LMNT prides itself on providing flavor and electrolytes without the added sugar. While so many sports drinks are super sugary, LMNT doesn’t have any added sugars—which is great for anyone who’s on a keto diet plan.
LMNT’s electrolyte mixes come in a number of fruit flavors. I’ve tried both Watermelon Salt and Raspberry Salt. And the word “salt” is in both of those names for a reason. While the mix provides a light fruit flavor, the flavor is also surprisingly salty. And while I know that the sodium is good for me, I don’t necessarily want to taste it in my drink while I’m walking.
These electrolyte packets will definitely give you an electrolyte boost—with twice the sodium as the average electrolyte drink. But while I appreciate the extra vitamins and minerals mixed with the lack of sugar, I just can’t get beyond the salty flavor.
