Since trying Liquid I.V.’s sugar free Hydration Multiplier—and finding it surprisingly delicious—I knew I needed to try Aldi’s PurAqua version. Since the brand’s electrolyte mix is similar to Liquid I.V.’s—just at a lower price—I expected them to be quite similar. This time, though, the result wasn’t what I expected.
On a recent grocery trip, the Rainbow Sherbert flavor caught my eye. Since Bomb Pop flavors were everywhere last summer, I figured that Rainbow Sherbert would be this year’s top flavor. But after trying it, I’ve changed my mind. When I took my first sip, I was excited for that rush of fruity, summery nostalgia. Instead…I’m not exactly sure what I got. It didn’t taste like the classic frozen treat, though. It tasted more like artificial sweetness. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t really figure out what the flavor was—but I didn’t love it. Admittedly, the sugar-free aftertaste wasn’t as obvious as that of other sugar-free drinks, but that didn’t really make it better.
Of course, I may have just chosen the wrong flavor. Maybe some of the other flavors wouldn’t taste quite as artificial—and maybe I’ll brave another one of the brand’s sugar-free options at some point. But, for now, I’ll be sticking with hydration options that don’t taste quite as harsh.
