Workout Review: 80s & 90s Classic Hits with Gina B
If the weather isn’t cooperating…or you’re stuck at home with a house full of kids…or you’re just looking for a way to change up your daily workout…there are still plenty of ways to get your steps without hitting the trail!
I’m always on the lookout for great walk-at-home workouts that are fun and upbeat yet easy for those of us who don’t have the coordination of a professional backup dancer (you can find all of my reviews here). And, this week, we’re trying out the 80s & 90s Classic Hits Walking Workout with Gina B from Up to the BEat Fit on YouTube.
This 25-minute, mostly low-impact workout is pretty simple and straightforward in (almost) all the right ways. There’s really nothing fancy or distracting or over-complicated here. The setting is a bright, uncluttered studio, and the moves are generally pretty basic. There may not be a lot of variety to the steps, but that also keeps the workout from getting too complex. You won’t find any split-screens or countdowns showing the next move—or even a lot of explanation for each move—so the fact that the steps are pretty simple will help most people keep up. I’ll admit that I had trouble with one or two of the moves—and I didn’t want to stop my workout to figure them out—so I just went with something easier for me instead.
Meanwhile, in addition to working your lower body, you’ll also be moving your arms to give you more of a full-body workout. I like to wear my wrist weights for my walk-at-home workouts to take it up a notch—and I definitely felt the extra burn when I was done.
The best thing about this workout, though, is the energy. The music is fun and upbeat—and instead of the generic instrumental workout tracks that many others use, these songs are workout remixes of classic songs. And Gina B is every bit as lively and upbeat as the music. She sings and smiles and calls out encouragement as she talks through all of the moves.
When the workout comes to its end, you’re sure to have worked up a good sweat. It’s hard to say exactly how many steps you’ll have gotten, but the video claims that it’s around 3,250—and since my watch reported that I’d walked about a mile and a half, that seems pretty close. So if you’re trying to get some extra steps on a rainy day, this fun, high-energy workout is worth trying. I’ll definitely be adding Gina B to my regular rotation.
