The last few months have been a blur—but, suddenly, here we are…in the middle of May. It won’t be long before the kids are home from school, and we’ll be scrambling to figure out how to keep them occupied and entertained without staring at screens all day. We’ll also be scrambling to figure out how to get our steps in when there are kids under foot, asking for snacks all day. So why not combine the two? Taking a walk with the kids—and playing a fun Disney playlist—will entertain them for a while while you all get some exercise.

Just remember to bring snacks.

A little more about the playlist:

I’ve included a number of different ways to listen.  I’ve got YouTube videos posted below.  If you want to download the MP3, I’ve also got links to find them on Amazon.  Or you can listen to the whole thing by playing the Spotify playlist.

For each song in this playlist, I’ve listed the beats per minute, the pace (in minutes per mile) that you’ll be walking if you’re walking to the beat, and the number of steps that you’ll take during the song if you keep up that pace.  We’ll start with an easy pace and work our way up, finishing with a cool-down.  This playlist is shorter than our usual playlist—and the pace is generally easier—so it’s more kid-friendly. Take it at a pace that works for you and your kids—whether that means moving faster or slower.  You’re totally allowed to dance and sing your way through this playlist, too.  If you follow the pace of each song, you’ll be over 3,500 steps (or around 1.75 miles) by the time you reach the end. If you’re looking for more steps, feel free to play it again—or move on to another one of my playlists. You can find them all on the Playlists page.

1) “Go the Distance” from Hercules

We’re kicking off our walk with the kids with an inspirational song from Hercules. The pace is easy, but it should warm everyone up and get the kids ready to go the distance on your walk together.

2) “Why Should I Worry” – from Oliver & Company

Every once in a while, when I’m having a rough day, this song pops into my head. It’s totally ‘80s in a Billy Joel, New York City kind of way—and maybe that’s another thing that I love about it. Oliver & Company is such an underrated Disney movie. And there’s something about this song that puts a smile on my face and makes me want to strut down the street. Feel free to strut with your kids during this one.

3) “Friend Like Me” – from Aladdin

Aladdin could be my favorite Disney animated movie (though, really, that’s a tough call to make) and “Friend Like Me” has always been my favorite song from the movie (though, again, tough call there). So I had to include it in our fun, family-friendly playlist. While you’re listening, imagine parading into the city with Prince Ali and his genie.

4) “Under the Sea” – from The Little Mermaid

After Aladdin, The Little Mermaid is probably my second favorite Disney animated movie—probably because these are the animated movies of my youth. And, admittedly, now that I’m the mother of a preteen girl, I understand King Triton more than I’d like. But I still have a soft spot for this Disney classic—and I love the groove of this song by Samuel E. Wright as Sebastian. It’s impossible not to sing and dance along.

5) “The Bare Necessities” – from The Jungle Book

While you’re out on your walk with the family, this classic reminds you to leave your worries behind. Take some advice from Baloo—but maybe skip the part about eating bugs.

6) “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” – from Mulan

There’s just something about this training montage from Mulan that makes you feel ready to march into battle—even if you’re not a man. It’s just got the perfect energy for picking up the pace a little bit on our family walk.

7) “Be Our Guest” – from Beauty and the Beast

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve always been a big fan of those grand musical montage numbers from Disney musicals. And since I’m also a big fan of…food…I love this one from Beauty and the Beast. I still have yet to try the gray stuff, but I’m pretty sure it’s delicious.

8) “Ev’rybody Wants to Be a Cat” – from The Aristocats

The Aristocats may not be one of the more popular Disney animated films, but it definitely has its charms. And you can’t help but love this jazzy track from Scatman Crothers.

9) “Un Poco Loco” – from Coco

If this song from Coco doesn’t make you dance a little while you’re walking with your kids, I don’t know what will. It’s a short little song, but the instruments and the energy make it such a fun, fast-paced addition to our playlist.

10) “You’re Welcome” – from Moana

I just couldn’t make a fun, family-friendly walking playlist without including Dwayne Johnson. I apologize in advance for the fact that this song will now be stuck in your head for the next several days. Or, I guess…you’re welcome.

11) “Dig a Little Deeper” – from The Princess and the Frog

Check it out! It’s already cool-down time! We’re finishing up our fun family walk with a track that will help everyone push through those last few minutes. Dig a little deeper, everyone! You’re almost there!

And that’s it—the end of our Disney-fied family-friendly walking playlist! I kept this one a little easier—and a little shorter—to keep it doable for younger walkers, but if you’re up for more, start from the beginning and keep the fun going!

If you’ve been keeping up with the beat, you’ve just gotten over 3,500 steps (or around 1.75 miles) together. Way to get those steps in!

I hope this playlist helps you keep your kids walking during their summer break! Do you have any other favorite Disney hits that you’d add to our list?
