Gear Review: Old Navy PowerSoft Leggings

Once upon a time, my everyday uniform was jeans and a T-shirt.  While moms around me traded their jeans for leggings, I resisted.  I just didn’t find them comfortable.  At all.  But, as it turns out, I just hadn’t found the right leggings.

When I started my regular walking routine, I decided to give leggings another try.  Instead of the cheap cottony leggings that I’d been buying to wear under dresses (and always ended up tugging on them to keep them from sagging), I tried some high-waisted activewear leggings instead.  And the rest is history.

Through the years, I’ve tried all kinds of different brands of leggings.  But my first love will always be my PowerSoft Pocket Leggings from Old Navy.  PowerSoft leggings are high-waisted and flattering, made of a blend of polyester and spandex for a comfortably compressive fit that doesn’t sag.  They aren’t as tight as some other brands, but I find that they smooth things out in all the right places.

PowerSoft leggings offer so many different options.  You can get them in bike shorts, capri length, 7/8, and full length.  Sizes range from girls’ sizes through women’s 4XL—from petite to tall.  They come in different colors and patterns, too.  And if you prefer your leggings without pockets (though I have no idea why you would), they have them (often in fun patterns that aren’t available in their pocketed counterparts).  No matter what your preferences, you’ll be able to find leggings that will work for race day just as well as everyday.  And as long as you take good care of them (I wash my leggings on the delicate setting and hang them to dry), they’ll take good care of you, too—and they’ll get you through one race day after another for years to come.

Meanwhile, while some people would pay a whole lot of money for leggings this flattering and flexible, though, the regular price for full-length PowerSoft leggings is just $39.99.  But since this is Old Navy, I never pay full price.  Old Navy often puts their leggings on sale—and you can find them marked down 50% or more.  You can also find certain colors and styles on clearance from time to time—so I recommend downloading the Old Navy app and keeping an eye on your favorites.

Admittedly, my PowerSofts might not be the perfect leggings.  The fabric isn’t as thick as some other brands.  There aren’t as many color/pattern options as there once were.  And the stitching has a tendency to unravel if I’m not careful when I pull them up.  But the pros far outweigh the cons of these amazing leggings.

Pros:
– Flattering high-waisted style
– Comfortably compressive
– Available in a variety of sizes, lengths, colors, and patterns
– Long-lasting
– Pockets! (or not…if you’re into that kind of no-pocket thing)
– Good price (and often on sale)

Cons:
– Fabric isn’t as heavy as some other brands
– Stitching sometimes unravels
