A few years ago, after tackling my very first outdoor 5k and realizing that I absolutely loved it, I talked my walking buddies into signing up for a second race.  The first one had been in early November, when the temperatures were just starting to get chilly.  The next one was in February, when winter can be at its worst.  And as soon as the excitement of signing up wore off, we realized that we had no idea what to wear for a 5k in February.  And that’s where my relationship with fleece-lined leggings began.

Through the years, I’ve tried a number of different brands of thermal leggings at all different price points, and just a couple rise to the top.  Baleaf’s Laureate Thermal Pocketed Leggings are some of my all-time favorites—because they check off all of the winter-weather walking boxes.

First of all, they’re warm.  I’ve tried some fleece-lined leggings that are barely any warmer than my everyday leggings—but that’s not the case here.  Baleaf’s thermal leggings may look like your everyday leggings, but the inside is soft and warm and plush—and they definitely do the job.  They keep my legs warm in colder temperatures without making me feel sweaty and gross.  And they’re great for layering as the temperatures keep dropping.

The fit, too, is just perfect.  These aren’t the kind of leggings that sag and droop and need constant adjusting.  The fit is true to size, and they stay true to size—even after a few washes.  They’re soft and stretchy and easy to move in—and they’ve got the right amount of compression to smooth out any bumps.  As an added bonus for long-legged girls like me, they’re surprisingly long, too.  And they wear incredibly well. These aren’t leggings that you’ll be replacing every season as the fabric wears out; they’re the kind that you’ll reach for winter after winter, for every cold-weather occasion.

And, finally, these leggings have the extras that help them tip the scales.  Pockets are critical for me, and not only do these have a hidden waistband pocket, but they’ve got two side pockets, too—perfect for your phone and a key or two.  If you aren’t as reliant on pockets as I am, there’s also a basic option with just a waistband pocket.  Or, if you need a little more security for your stash, there’s a zipper pocket option, too.

Whether you’re tackling a 5k (or longer!) on a chilly winter day or sitting in the icy-cold stands for your kid’s Saturday morning hockey game, Baleaf’s Laureate Thermal Pocketed Leggings will become your go-to fleece-lined leggings.  They’re warm and cozy, and they look great, too—so you’ll want to pick up a pair in very color.

Pros:

– True to size—and they stay that way after washing

– Quality fabric that doesn’t wear out easily

– Plenty of pockets

– Soft and cozy and surprisingly warm

– Available in a number of colors

Cons:

– Color options are pretty plain—no vibrant colors or fun prints
